Das Boot
I can't tell you something about the ratings on 'Das Boot' in the 80's, because I'm from East Germany. That movie wasn't shown in our cinemas. But I've seen the 6 hour TV-version on Danish TV with Danish subtitles in the late 80's and was deeply impressed. As I know, the movie was only best- and top-rated in West Germany. But there's something else I can tell you on this case. You probably know, that most of the German uboat-veterans "don't like" LGB. So H.G.Hess(U-995) is doing. He told me, that there is just one positive aspect in his point of view to LGB: it has brought lots of interest in Germany for their veterans and the former 'UBootwaffe'.
