Only the Empire Bede was hit by one torpedo, she was later sunk by HMS Pimpernel. [2] U553 observed from a spread of four torpedoes fired at 0913 after 56 sec, 1 min 3sec and 1 min 6 sec. Hi Walter, in Ubootarchiv they describe the action as U553 sighted convoy TAW-13 on 17.08.1942 at 14:17, with some aircraft overhead. The commander decided to attack. On the 18th at 04:00 U553 closed and at 05:59 two torpedoes were fired at overlapping ships, which the Blankholm was hit and then sank. Also mentioned two further torpedoes were fired at 06:03 and four at 09:13. John

This boat was attacked and damaged by RN MTB's on 24.04.1945, the commander being seriously wounded shot himself. The boat was safely returned, with the Engineering officer OLt ing Klaus Weber. With OltzS Uwe Holm as 1st W/O surviving the attack, why didn't he assume command over the engineering officer?. John

Hi Thorsten, thankyou for replying, Historische have U370 entering Nuokko on the 12th leaving on the 20th after resupply on the 18th at AO30 by U481, which sailed same day form Nuokko. The Ubootarchiv as U370 entering Kalasika on the 12th and sailing on the 20th.However your evidence clears it up. Regards John

Hi U481 apparently supplied U370 on 18.08.1944 at Grid area AO 30. I have been unable to find a place where they were together on this date unless in a port, although U370 was at Kalasika and U481 at Kuokko. Also the area AO 30 according to the German naval grid convert does not exist. John

The translator I used, did not help put the message in context. Seeing U958 had been at sea since October 13th while U679 followed on November 2nd, U958 would be due to return first, may be the two needed to be returned earlier than if t
