What bases are still in existance in france? I have Jak Showells book on U boat bases and there is good coverage of the French bases, however, I believe that this information is now out of date. I would appre

happy new year all i am wondering how the anti-aircraft turrets on the XXI U boats were manned: were they remote controlled? I assume they were not manned by gunners as they are not part of the pressure hull. I have several books on the XXI boats, but none really explain how the guns were aimed and operated. i would appreciate any info cheers dave

Nobuo Fujita from the I-25 in a Yokosuka E14Y floatplane conducted reconnaissance flights over Wellington on 8 March and Auckland on 13 March before departing for Fiji.[2]

Hello crew yes I know this is not about German U boats but I would like to tap into the vast knowledge of ww2 submarine warfare that members of this forum have. Is it true that in WW2 Japan sent submarine(s) into New Zealand waters? It is an urban myth here but I have yet to see any concrete evidence that they did operate in NZ waters. another myth doing the rounds since ww2 is that o

Hello all I am wondering if any of the U boats had wooden decking on the tops of their hulls. I ask this as I have seen some pictures where it looks like the decking is wooden planking. I thought that the decks of U boats were made from steel and in most pictures this seems to be the case. Can anybody shed some light on this subject for me please? excuse me if I have not used th
