34° 26'N, 23° 10'EAt 1740 hours, three bombers were seen and Onice crash-dived. She had reached a depth of 20 metres, when three bombs exploded, causing no damage.

These were three Baltimore of 454 Squadron (RAAF), returning to base after an uneventful anti-shipping sweep of the Aegean Sea.

At 1841C hours, the leading aircraft (AH158) piloted by Flight Lieutenant M. Moore sighted a fully surfaced U-boat, steering 250° at 7 knots. The submarine began an immediate crash dive. The Baltimore dived to attack and, from 1000 feet, dropped two 250 lb. General Purpose bombs with a three second delay, just as the periscope was seen to submerge. The bombs overshot by about 50 yards. The second aircraft, (AG869) piloted by Sergeant D. Todhunter, while at extreme range, fired a short burst from its forward guns at the submerging U-boat. As the three aircraft were short of fuel, they could not linger on the scene and returned to base.
