Hi Einsamer,
Buchheim was on U 96's seventh patrol, from 27th October 41 to 6th December 41. The numerous photos in U-Boat War show that at this time U 96 did not have the net cutter nor the breakwaters (parts 115 and 116). These had both been removed. U 96 also had the wind deflector flange (part 121) around the top of the tower bulwark, which would not have been in place when it was launched.
The photos taken during the 7th patrol show that U 96 had two snorting bulls at this time. The swordfish was not adopted until later. So if you are putting a pair of swordfish on your model, you certainly can't put a netcutter on also.
Later photos show U 96 with a swordfish on either side of the tower. There is also a photo on page 146 of Stern's "Type VII U-Boats" which shows that, at one time, U 96 had a swordfish on either side plus a bull between them.
