Pink? Let's hope that is red faded by the salt-water. I take it then you regard this as prove that it was red. Of course, your wonderful website provides this caveat:
The numerous laughing swordfishes used as 9th U-Flottille insignia may not necessarily have been the same colour as U 96’s swordfish, and there may have been variations in colour between these swordfishes.

When conning towers were repainted the insignia were often slightly altered. U 47’s snorting bull, for example, in at least seven different versions during the 18-month period when it appeared on U 47’s tower. Not only were some insignia designs improved, but on occasions they were replaced by completely new insignia.
With that said, I suppose now one would think it was red. Perhaps they alternated colors. Given this color photo you have, what do you make of the very dark hue featured in black and white and photos? Remember also, that Lehmann-Willenbrock was an advisor on the set of das Boot, which features a black swordfish. I am not saying I disagree with you. It definitely looks like its red. I just wanted to know what you make of these other considerations.
