Hello, everyone.
Yes, I too would like pics of what you have, Joe.
I'd also like to know from where the book might be obtained, tnx.
Leif is trying to program a virtual "vorhaltrechner" and so far is doing a fabulous job. Inspired by his work, thought I would travel to Chicago and take a look for myself; but, the Display is like a "kiddie zoo" and has turned into a science-toy center for school children. I'm not saying this is a bad thing from an educational standpoint, but its not for the truely interested, and very little can actually be viewed there. I guess one would have to be a "member" of the Museum of Science and Industry to get a REAL tour of her.
What I observed of the small vorhaltrechner that was accessable to the public was in a small alcove located on the tail-end of the tour in the covered hallway between the ship and the museum building. It was setup, presummably after they made the zentrale off-limits due to children falling from her deck or down the ladder. As Ken suggests it was probably (originally) attached in the fwd torpedo room. They've removed it from it's former location and placed it in the simulated conning tower along with a US Navy scope, permanently pointed to view Lake Michigan. (You can see this scope in the VR view on the Port side of the Fore Deck).
So did it program both the FAT and LUT torpedoes?
Cheers,
Don
