Thanks much for the info.

I also have not found anything describing how a FAT was programmed. It seems it did have some variables (length of the initial straight course, direction of turn – left or right, length of each leg of the “ladder”, and speed of travel during each course reversal) that were set before firing though. I wonder if it was programmed by an earlier device like the one for LUT or if perhaps the torpedo itself had to be programmed before it went into the torpedo tube.

One thing about being interested in U-boats – there is no end to the questions.
