You are correct Ken. The initial launching of the torpedo is done with the TDC for all types of torpedos . The smaller box that started this posting is for the LUT torpedos , this was found in the forward torpedo room and was to set the running pattern of that torpedo after it finished it's straight running course. To the best of my knowledge this device was used only for the LUT torpedos . The reason I say that is because for this device only the LUT is mentioned and not FAT torpedos in all of the books that mention this device ( LUT-Einstelltafel ).
