Raimer:
The aluminum is a powder mixed with the synthetic rubber when the tile material is manufactured. The adhesive that is applied over the special pimer is rather thick.
There is no "metallic" contact with the hull. This system has been in use since
1988 and is very reliable; no galvanic-action/electrolysis occurs. It sure beats the
Soviet application of 2" thick rubber (bolted) on the external hull of the K-81 guided-
missile boat (U-484) used in "K-19: THE WIDOWMAKER."
The KURSK had a thick "blanket" of rubber (4") around the pressure hull, to limit its
accoustic signature. This caused delays during the salvage operation, 'cause the 22,000psi water/abrasive slurry used to cut the 26 holes in the pressure hull would just "chip away" small bits of rubber.
