"FIDO" was the US Navy's first air-dropped accoustic torpedo. It was the MK 24,not a Mk 14.........
It was not the same as the air-dropped 325# depth bomb, which had two arming wires; one for contact and the other for pressure activation.
The book "HELLIONS OF THE DEEP" by Robert Gannon describes its origin and
speedy development.
