I have cross referenced Chatterton's work with National Archive files (the logs) and with Bundesarchiv material -
thanks for the tip however.

My conclusion is that Keble-Chatterton's material is largely reliable when it comes to the British perspective but as ever, a wise researcher examines German primary sources too !
