<HTML>The US took a leaf from the German's in their electric torpedo development during the war. Everyone agrees to that.
But by the end of the war there was a big buearacracy and a lot of people in the US working on advanced torpedo designs, including homing torpedoes etc.
I have not heard anyone say that postwar US torpedo dev't was helped by captured Japanese or German torpedoes, even though there were some admiring words for the Japanese Long Lance (such as in 'Sink 'em All' by Adm Lockwood). By the end of the war I most Americans considered their torpedoes better than the Germans, particularly with regards to homing technology. No source I have heard of mentions German influence on postwar torpedo dev't like the Type XXI did in submarine design.
If you have examples (with references) of specific technologies that were copied, I would be interested to hear of it.
Thanks</HTML>
