This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

<HTML>The original movie version is mucho good as far as I\'m concerned. That\'s how I first saw Das Boot back in 1981 when it was first released, and it\'s the thing that hooked me onto U-boats.
In the mean time, I have seen the series nearly a dozen times, the \"original\" movie about five times (yes, I still go to see it whenever I can, even now), something that must have been an edit of the series once (*), and the director\'s cut also once (dubbed in english, argghhhh!). Of course I know it all by heart by now, and obviously I now know what is missing from the movie. But that does not make the movie version bad. You have to watch it as what it was meant to be seen, not as someone who has seen it all before in much more detail.
(*) This was a weird thing shown on TV not so long ago. It included a lot more material than the original movie (something like 30 to 45 minutes). But it wasn\'t the Director\'s cut as I recently found out when that was on the air over here. I\'m still wondering what happened in this case.</HTML>
