<HTML>I have read all the conversation about re-making a historically-exact epic which has become something of a classic, but I would much prefer Harrison Ford as the Old Man - Mel Gibson simply doesn\'t have the ponderous deliberation that Harrison can exhibit in movies such as \"Presumed Innocent\".If we could have it all, the film should have been made in the 1950\'s, because the Old Man really looked a lot like the young Peter Ustinov. Still, it would be a pity to throw such a lovely property to the wolves of Hollywood merely for the purpose of making a fast buck. Buchheim has written a lot more about U-Boats and the Old Man in his new novel \"Die Festung\", A sequel would be just fine for me.
Best Wishes to all

Perhaps Mel Gibson for the Captain.
You could remake Das Boot. The original is not a great movie. (I hear the screams of outrage) Das Boot was not shot as a movie, it was shot as a mini-series. It is too long and too slowly paced for a movie. When it was re-edited into movie length, it lost a lot. It needs to be re-written as a movie to make it as a theatratical release. And if you want it to be a success in the US, it has to be shot in English. Americans don\\\'t like dubbed films and dispise subtitles.</HTML>
