<HTML>Maclean gave his convoy a fictitious name (F???? something or other I think), presumably so he could make fast and loose with the historical facts and characters.
Milner I would guess called his PQ17 as he stuck more closely to the truth and to avoid copyright issues with the Maclean book.
I think we're safe
In fact looking for a copy of the book I've also found a radio dramatisation of HMS Ulysses five years ago with Jacobi, Sinden and the late lovely Ian Bannen. [www.bbc.co.uk]
Wish I'd caught that one.
I've ordered the novel in from the library, as it starts to get embarassing not remembering any of the characters names, and it's about time I re-read it. Out of the half doz or so Macleans I've read I do think it's about the best one so far. I haven't managed to get hold of South by Java Head yet.
