<HTML>Thinking about it, just like in Das Boot we would of course need mostly new young actors, fairly unknown and relatively fresh from Drama school, or go horrendously over budget, and a casting director with a keen eye for new talent. I would say we would have to have a 'name' or actor with a bankable track record for maybe Valery, Starr (as a cameo) Old Socrates, maybe the young doctor (I still favour Macgregor), the admiral who dies, and a couple of Americans - and Gwyneth Paltrow or someone similar perhaps for the bereaved girlfriend.
Brian Cox, definitely, Ian Richardson maybe. Other than that I'm not sure. Gambon would be good, maybe for the admiral. If you don't like Irons, how about Neeson? I know, a very different type, but I was really impressed with him in K19. About the best thing I've seen him do other than Schindler. Whatever, you're right, we need to get away from the slightly effete and overstuffy British 'lovey' approach. We need vigourous earthy performances, if we're going to break free of the old stiff upper lip 40's and 50's style of Brirtish war film, much as I love them.
Any suggestions?
