To see the two periscopes mentioned, go to:

[www.maritime.org] - "THE FLEET TYPE SUBMARINE"
NAVPERS 16160.

Open it and scroll down to CONTENTS. Chapter #1 "Development of the Submarine," now scroll down to figure 1-19 "The Lower Portion of Modern Periscope." This shows a photo of both periscopes in the Conning Tower. Don't
they look identical?

Now go to: [www.maritime.org] - THE SUBMARINE
PERISCOPE MANUAL - NAVPERS 16165 This is a long download, but it'll tell
you all you want to know about periscopes.

Hope this explains the #1and #2 periscopes.
