<HTML>Hi Meg,
I think there is an urgent need to improve my English...
Your quote is quite correct, but it contains an error: I was talking about East Germany - the GDR. We had heroes. We had tons of heroes! The whole Red Army consists of heroes - brave communistic heroes. But of course, there have never been heroes in the fascistic Wehrmacht. That's what they taught us. But there were exceptions like Generalfeldmarschall Paulus, who has changed or had to change(I don't know)his political views. BTW, later he helped to 'rebuilt' the East German Army - NVA. For that reason our NVA-uniforms looked like Wehrmachts-uniforms with different emblems.
So there was no anti-heroism or pacifism in the GDR - just propaganda. Like in all parts of life, it just depends on the point of view.
As you can see, I'm simplifying this theme, but it's because of my lousy English - I'm not narrow-minded[no way! never!].
...but it would takes weeks to explain all the thoughts I have with this theme in a proper way...
So you have got a charming slavedriver for three classes... Congratulations. )
I underwent some Latin-lessons when I was at university. One of my teachers were a lady in her best years with the charme of an 'Aspirin'. So I often was falling asleep. If I had to listen to that lady 'a few more classes', I would had got enough sleep for the rest of my life.
Best regards
