Hello SnakeDoc, Thanks for your follow-up... I did go back to my Control Room and Tower drawings in Richard Lakowski's Book "Deutsche U-Boote GEHEIM 1935 - 1945" and found that item 166 on page 69 is the Rudder Control Switch in the Control Room for the Type VII, and item 161 on page 70 is the Rudder Control Switch in the tower. However, nothing is indicated for the bridge.

Hello Comet61, Steering the Type VII U-boat was acomplished by manipulating a switch device located on the forward bulkhead in the control room. This switch was similar to the two switch units in the control room to control the stern and bow dive plains. There was a manual steering wheel located in the stern torpedo room in case the electrical control failed. I hope this information helps

Hi Simon, I believe you are looking at two different versions of the Type VII U-boat. Your first drawing (Top) is of a Uboottyp VII C (1944) General plan, and your second drawing (Lower) is of a Uboottyp VII B. It looks like they did move things around just a little. These prints are available in Eberhard Rossler's book Geschichte des deutschen U-Bootbaus, Band 1, published by Bernhard

Hi Ken, This book looks to be excellent. Schiffer Publishing always do quality books... It will be available at Amazon on Feb 20, 2010. They have not published a price, but it should qualify for free shiping. If the cost and shipping is less than the Aberdeen Book Store's price, then I'll order it from Amazon. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year... Regards, Don_

Hello Simon, This is the best that I can find for you on this item at this time.... Email to my Friend Jeff LaRue. Hi Jeff, A fellow on Uboat.net wants to know what these bumper devices are. I found the exact bumper devices in the “Vom Original zum Modell: Uboottyp VII C” on page 34. I only see those devices on U-Boats with snorkels so far. U-995 has the bollards removed and most

Hi Simon, I didn't remember for sure, so I asked my friemd Mr. Jeffrey LaRue... Hi Don, ……Are you asking for the angle on the prop shafts? Each shaft diverged 1 degree from the centerline….i.e. getting farther apart as you move towards the stern. Does that help? -Jeff Regards, Don_

Hello Saskia, Please review the following article... U-96 most likely had a Green Laughing Sawfish. Dougie Martindale has done a great deal of research on the subject... I built my OTW Designs 1/32 scale Type VIIc and followed his advice. Originally I had it black because of the black and white photos... Regards, Don_

Hello Gseuchler, I believe U-552 would not have had the upper net cutter in 1942. You can search the net for "Model U-boat crew 1/72" and that will provide many different kits. You should be very good at painting these very small figures. I painted the Andrea 1/32 crew and the photos are posted on the Subcommittee tack board as follows: Best regards, Don_

Hello Jukka, Wow! What a great question... Several years ago, I asked the French Embassy here in the U. S., if it was possible to get a piece of the U-Boat Bunker Concrete from the RAF bombing site. About a month later, I received a copy of an aerial photo of Brest taken in 1946, and a copy of a photo taken in 1944 when the U.S. Infantry Division (Blue & Gray) liberated the Brest U-Boat

Welcome aboard Gary, I have been a student on U-Boats for about seven years... You will enjoy this subject/passion and there are quite a few people who post on this forum that are experts in the field (and I'm NOT one of them!). I'm finally retired (68 Years old) from my computer support job of more than 46 years. Now, I can spend more time researching U-Boats (Especially the Typ

While deep submergence is a recourse available to assume the farthest position away from depth charges, it also enables the depth charge which is set for deep explosion to be effective at greater distances from the pressure hull. On the other hand, with the

Consequently, depth charges depend on the percussive wave of the explosion for their effectiveness. The effective radius of the percussive wave depends upon the str

Hi Keith, I got mine from... www.soldat.com They are also available on ebay from various sellers. You will need to decide if you want a Captain (Oak leafs on the brim), or a Lieutenant (small Scallops on the brim as worn in the Das Boot movie). Mine is a Lieutenant cap. Soldat can sent you one that looks new and crisp (Like mine), or they can age it to look more authentic. Regards

Hello Maciek, I got a photo copy of the book from a book seller in Germany for $150.00 (If I remember correctly?). Most of the time he doesn't respond to my emails. I am in the process of making a copy and sending it to Captain Jerry Mason at UboatArchive and he is planning on posting it on his web site. Regards, Don_
