241. Re: UB-46
Hello again Mustafa, Goslar 4332 grt launched in 1906 for the German-Australian Line was siezed by the British at Suez in 1914 and renamed Huntsfall. Most likely built by a German Ship building Company. The name of the company is unkown to me. The Naval Museum in Istanbul has what is left of UB46 on display. There are some images of the Uboat in the Gallary section of this site (uboat.

After the war there were a great many uboats of all types in various stages of construction in dry docks and that were launched but NOT completed and NOT commissioned by the Imperial German Navy. Only boats that were commissioned into the Kaiserliche Marine are listed in uboat.net. If I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time or the last) someone more knowledgeable will correct.

Hello to All, On 30 April '17, U93 had already sunk 3 steamers when she encountered the Prize. Prize was a sailing ship of 223 grt built in 1901 by Smit and Zoon in Germany. On 10 Aug. 1914 she was arrested by HMS Diana off southwest Ireland and escorted into Falmouth. At the time she was Else. Both vessels were extensively damaged but survived the engagement. This was the last

Hi Guys, In the engagement between U85 and Privet, Privet suffered at least 5 direct hits from U85's gun causing her to sink. Privet, launched as Island Queen 803/16 and built by Goole SB was later raised. This was the only success registered by U85 on it's last patrol. Respectfully, Joe R

Michael, There is another Soroki in nothern Russia. After building the transsiberian rail- way and transporting submarines to far eastern Russia before the 1904-05 war, then moving a small schooner of about a hundred tons would be an easy task. See Map Its northwest of Moscow halfway to St. Petersburg. Respectfully, Joe R

Hi Everyone, Deryck Swetnam is/was correct. The Russian schooner ALEXEI was mined in the same mine field and on the same date as the Russian KOVDA. The only question is how to list the loss, damaged or constructive loss. Source: Pages 83-84. Any info on Alexei would be most welcome. Respectfully, Joe R

On closer examination, Esch may have indeed survived the war! Ubootwaffe lists him as a crew member of U99 but the date of death is blank. This site does NOT list him as lost at all. Perhaps Simon S. or some other esteemed member of this forum can shed some light on this. A bit of a mystery. Joe R

Hello Again, The Garibaldi sunk by U35 was a bark of 1400 grt not 5185 grt, built by G. Ansaldo and Co. at Sestri Ponente Savonia and owned by G. Coxe. I don't this will affect von Arnauld's total too much. He will still be the greatest. Source: Miramar and Wrecksite.eu Respectfully, Joe R

Hello Michael, Admiral Spindler, Kemp, Tennent and Lloyds's missed ships too, so you're in some pretty good company! The curious thing about Hawanee is that it was listed on Yves's site but not on Uboat.net. Very Best Regards Joe

Hello bell47 and welcome to the forum, The answer to your question is both yes and no. Michael Lowrey is correct in writing that no Uboats were sunk off the east coast DURING the war 1914-18. AFTER the war, the USA was allocated 6 boats U111,U117,U140,UB88,UB148 and UC97 as war reparations. All were sunk as target practice. UC97 was sunk in Lake Michigan north of Chicago. UB88 sunk o

Hi Rosemarie and welcome to the forum, Your relative (it appears) was killed in the initial confrontation with U153 and U154. Scroll down to 25 April on this sight. He went down with his ship. Much has been written about the WILLOW BRANCH. Here is another link to try. [1914-1918.invisionzone.com] Hope this helps in your quest. Best Wishes, Joe R
