Hello and Happy New Year to All, UB64 could not have been seriously damaged if at all. Four days later, she attacked and sunk the armed merchant cruiser HMS Marmora, and the next day she torpedoed but did not sink the Defender. 19029 tons! Best wishes for the New Year Joe R

OUR NAVY AT WAR Josephus Daniels Lloyds War losses lists the ship as the ANSALDO I. A mistake I believe. Others sources list 3 crew wounded, several shell hits and one gun put out of commission. Hi Michael, good to hear from you. Thomas Collard was along side Calgarian too and it was sunk WITHOUT any casualties. "Lord Lister, hired trawler, minesweeper, damaged assisting Calgarian". Quote from naval-history.net As an old retired Infantryman, knowing very little about naval ways, I doubt that the two men who died were aboard the Calgarian. The answer is in ADM.1/8519/

195. Re: U38
Hay Michael, Blame the misspelling on Herr Langensiepen or his editor. I spelled the name exactly as spelled in the book. The fact is that U38 only damaged the ship and did not sink it. Joe

If no answer there, there is a French site, and you may still get an answer from the Dutch forum. Respectfully, Joe R
