19 Oct 1942. A hard-won success for U-610. The boat fired three torpedoes at the American steam merchant Steel Navigator at 13.03hrs, but without result. When the ship replied with gunfire, the U-boat dived, but continued to follow the ship. At 19.46hrs a second attack with two torpedoes was successful.
