An attack by an American B-24 bomber from Squadron VB 107 (pilot Edward W. Krug) damaged the stern torpedo tubes. The boat abandoned planned operations off Cape Town and continued to the Indian Ocean, arriving at Jakarta on 11 June. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 537)
