Ordered to patrol in the southern North Sea. Ice delayed the transfer of the boat through the Kiel canal and it had to wait in Helgoland before it could begin the patrol.

Patrol in the southern North Sea. On 25 January, the boat had to abort the patrol after its periscope was damaged in a collision with Biarritz.
