The most recent maritime conflict involving submarines was the 1982 Falklands War. The performance of the British nuclear submarine was powerfully demonstrated but Argentine had at least four diesel-electric boats of a design that appears to resemble a type XXI. I have not read or heard much about their performance in the conflict against the ASW forces from Britain. How did they perform in a real battle? All I know is that one was sunk in South Georgia but what happened to the rest?
Had I been in a senior position on the Task Force (which thankfully I wasn't) I would have been deeply concerned about the damage that four of these subs could do. I would have given their elimination some considerable attention. Does anyone know what actually happened in any engagements, if indeed there were any?
