Ken:
I'll try to do some calcs on pressure buildup in the boat due to torpedo firing. However, can you (or someone) fill in a couple technical details for me:
#1: Length and diameter of torpedo tube.
#2: Pressure of air used to eject torpedo.
I will assume that torpedo eject air came from a pressure regulating valve set for a specific outlet pressure (e.g. 200 psi) and that the final post-eject air pressure in the tube is the regulator setting.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong on the following firing sequence:
#1: Load torpedo and piston in tube; shut Breech Door.
#2: Open equalizing valve, flood tube from sea to equalize pressure across muzzle door. (so it can be opened)
#3: Open muzzle door and bow shutters.
#4: Open Firing Valve; pressurize tube w/air behind piston to eject torpedo. Piston stops near muzzle of tube.
#5: Open Tube vent valve; vent eject air back into boat so sea
pressure refloods the tube pushing piston back to breech door.
#6: Shut Muzzle Door and bow shutters
#7: Drain tube inboard to drain tank.
#8: Open Breech Door; extract Piston.
Tube now ready to reload.
Thanx, TomW
