Okay, so those who know me know that nowadays I make my living as a Social Worker - yes, that's one of them awful people with more legal power than sense! However, I am a member of an excellent team which has a rare ability; that is to laugh at themselves and laugh at anything that they find funny.

If we allow ourselves on this forum to be branded Nazis, then we counter it by ignoring the insults thrown this way. We are historians with a specialist niche interest. We have no opinions on the conduct - unbecoming or otherwise - of individuals on both sides. We merely look and record, discuss and in some cases even set right what has been written by others.

I know those I met at Birkenhead were, without a doubt, not only fiercely proud of their own military and military history but also very much involved with this subject of U-boats. None of them could, in any way, even be considered 'political' never mind Nazi!

We do it to ensure the past is always remembered. We keep history alive.
