Dear Clark,
take it easy: we, the sub-addicts, agree on the fact that U-571 movie is very misleading. The only countermeasure toward it is ignore it or consider it for what it is: just a grotesque portrayal of submarine warfare. The first time I saw it I was upset, the second I was laughing all the time. A second class movie, nothing more, nothing less, does not deserve too much consideration. As a business enterprise, it was successful and that is enough for the producers and the director.
Good movies were often financial failures: among the many, \"The heavens\' gates\": the only American western movie where the bad guys are determined and lucky and the good ones unlucky and losers. Exactly like in the real, always, anywhere.
I suggest we go to the Blockbuster store and dig out all the old, b/w, sub movies. There are a lot of them, from different Countries, from different times and they can really provide us with lots of topics to discuss about.
Greetings
