Alas I fear your cynicism is entirely well placed :)

Actually, I don't care much if a director smirks bankward bound, as long as he has some integrity about his work. I don't even mind if he just wants to make action pap, as long as it's honest action pap and he doesn't try to dress it up as something else. But if he is attempting to do something beyond that I don't object too much if he gets a few things wrong as long as he has tried to keep it honest within the confines of his purposes and resources.

So I'll carry on going to see movies with an open mind and hopeful heart if no really high expectations, being careful to boycott the popcorn along with J Mostow films:)
