Good Morning Cate,
No problems with Ridley Scott and Ralph Richter (An inspired choice, look no further). An interesting piece of casting would be the roles of the US airmen who attacked the uboat and lifeboats even though they were showing the Red Cross and the deck gun was clearly unmanned. I think there are roles there for Homer Simpson, George Bush (Snr & Jnr) and Tom Hanks could reprise his role as Forrest Gump playing the guy who ordered the planes to open fire.
Seriously, in my view a film like TLI should be uncomprimising in it's historical accuracy. There is enough drama in the real story. eg.there should be no slushy romances between the Laconia passengers or God Forbid, A survivor and one of the crew!1 Don't laugh, you know what Hollywood can do to a good story, One comforting thought. If Scott DID direct, we would be spared the Celine Dion theme song. I can hear it now " I'm only a Laconia survivor" Good Grief.
Kindest regards
