<HTML>g'day Davidoff
sorry, i'm being a bit dense - was it the original pre- Directors Cut version you just got out? if so, the DC itself should be readily available at most video rental stores, either on dvd or vid. the dvd has the advantage of being able to switch off the subtitles and just listen in german, runs at an extra hour in length, and an interesting commentary by petersen and prochnow and one of the producers.
as you don't need subtitles and are in a PAL region the mini series should not be a problem to find, but it's a bit spendy. - it is available from the german amazon site at € 35 : [www.amazon.de]
or Volker Erich Kumrow posted a very good value german source here some while ago:
>>I just called my bookshop in Düsseldorf= Sternverlag 0049 211 38810. This long version = 351min of Das Boot in PAL can be ordered for ca. € 30 & p&p.<<
i can't think of a shorter cut to get this version unless you can persuade a public library to purchase it (it is a classic, so maybe they might...?)
hope this helps
Katinka :-)
btw, which documentary was it you had in mind?</HTML>
