<HTML>I tend to agree with the other views posted: that the technical aspects were ignored in order to make the movie more "creative". However, I have also read that some US sub commanders often distrusted their aircraft radar, beleiving that it actually attracted enemy planes. Therefore they generally left the radar off and relied on visual sightings. Take your pick - it's only a movie.
