Attacks on U-1232 during this patrol

14 Jan 1945
After sinking three ships from convoy BX 141 (Boston-Halifax) just off Halifax, Nova Scotia, U-1232 was counterattacked by the escorts. The Canadian frigate HMCS Ettrick rammed the boat, causing extensive damage to the conning tower, periscopes and radio mast. Despite being damaged by subsequent heavy depth charging, U-1232 managed to slip away, but was forced to return to base, arriving at Marviken, Norway, on Feb 14. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 649)
