General Events during this patrol
1942
15 Feb 1942. U-587 rescued five German airmen from a rubber dinghy in the North Atlantic about 300 miles north-west of Cape Finisterre, Spain at 0100hrs. They were from the Focke-Wulf Fw200C-4, WNr 0102 (3./KG 40, F8+FL) which was shot down by anti-aircraft fire from a three-masted sailing ship on 13 February, killing one man and slightly injuring three others. As the U-boat was at the begin of its patrol, the survivors were transferred to the homebound U-130 three days later, this proved to be their luck because U-587 did not return from patrol.
