Left Germany for a patrol in the North Atlantic, but while still in the North Sea a crew member became ill and the boat set course on Bergen to land him there. On 22 June, they transferred the ill crewman to Stör off Børnestangen, Norway. But en route U-99 had damaged when attacked in error by own aircraft and was forced to abort the patrol. Its arrival in Wilhelmshaven was delayed by fog and an Allied air attack on the harbour.
