General Events during this patrol

1940

13 Mar 1940. At 20.00 hrs, in AN 4965 (approx. 56°51N/03°48E), U-30 missed the British submarine HMS Truant after firing two torpedoes and hearing two end-of-run detonations.

29 Mar 1940. U-30 rescued all four crewmen of the drifting Dornier Do18G WNr V862 (2./KüFlGr 906, 8L+GK) in the North Sea about 40 miles south-west of Egersund, Norway at 0400hrs. The flying boat had made an emergency landing at sea due to engine trouble during a search and rescue mission the day before. Unable to take it in tow the U-boat scuttled the aircraft with gunfire.
