I\'ve thought about your question. Its hard to answer because I do not believe that the location of any US war grave submarines is known. There are a couple of boats lost from accidents that have been found, but they were found by the Navy or contractors to the Navy and they will not reveal the location. I also have not been able to find a WWII US warship wreck in US coastal waters. Judging from the Navy\'s protectivineness of the Hunley and the Monitor, I believe that they would not allow looting. I doubt they would forbid diving in most cases. I know they confiscate loot, when found. No way would they allow someone to salvage one of their wrecks.

Protecting U-boats is a little different from US or British ships because the ownership is a little confused. The government that built them no longer exists, and they were surrendered to the victors. There is some argument that wrecks were not surrendered because they were sunk, but I know that the US Navy claims Confederate Navy wrecks, and, in the case of the Hunley, a Confederate Privateer. In the US they are starting to protect the wrecks as Preserves.

There are a lot of Merchant Marine wrecks that are dove and looted all the time. Why has no one complained about the Merchant Marine graves?
