What you refer to is entirely different to the assertion that U-Boats were refuelled etc by by the Irish people.
Having sunk the Diamantis U-35 under the command of the splendid Werner Lott, picked up survivors and put them ashore in Dingle Bay. He did this at great risk to his boat and crew as there was a good chance that the crew members who rowed the survivors ashore would be picked up and interned for the duration (Try explaining THAT to Donitz)
As to being observed by a mamber of the Garda. Observe is about all he could do (A) He was on his own and ( He was unarmed. In reality the most he could do was blow his whistle at them. I may be wrong but I think they covered 'Attacks by Whistle-Blowing Irish Police' in the the U-Boat Training Manual.
