<HTML>Hi John,
I enjoyed reading both your very impressive postings on this subject and learnt a few more facts myself - Thanks.
The quite impressive firepower of the Belgrano (15 x 6\" & 8 x 5\") could have caused a hell of a lot of damage amongst our ships in the area and the men ashore (well if she had got close enough and been able to use them to the full advantage) Thats one of the reasons she had to be sunk - the Belgrano posed a very real threat to the task-force. She may have been outside the TEZ and whatever direction she was steaming in - she wasnt running for port and could have turned back at any time and possibly, possibly done considerable damage to our Task Force.
Those from countries who wernt involved or were too young to remember dont really understand what went on there - only what they have read in books etc.
Even the RNZN sent HMNZS CANTERBURY to (the med area, i believe) to relieve one of our ships there so that she could sail south.
Thanks again for two really excellent postings
Regards
