This thread made me get out some of my books on the Falklands.

Page 29 The Fleet Departs.
And when the carriers sailed, they did so with scaffolding still
around Hermes` bridge, and with scores of dockyard workers
still aboard. ( Many, poignantly, had redundancy notices in their pockets.)
None of that mattered. They sailed, as the navy had promised, on the
morning tide. They turned into the Solent, hulls shining in the haze.
Then slowly, slowly they were gone.
I wonder if those workers ever found employment again ?

grimly.\" Dying for Mrs Thatcher is quite another.\"
