Hello again gentlemen,
According to David Miller's book "U-BOATS: The Illustrated History of the Raiders of the Deep" Brasey's Publishing, Washington, D.C., copyright 2000, ISBN# 1-5488-246-6, pages 140 - 141: A petty officer (no name given) of the bottomed Type VIIC U-1199 (KL Rolf Nollmann) escaped through the conning-tower hatch, using his Draeger apparatus on the way to the surface. This escape from a depth of 240ft (73 meters) remains to this day the deepest known operational escape from a submarine.
Regards,
Paul
