<HTML>My major gripe with that waste of time is that it's cursed director claimed to have told a story that was as close to the truth as he could make it, whereas NOTHING in U-571 remotely came near such a story.
If he'd have said, 'it's a work of fantasy, nothing more', I could have lived with it. Have a laugh about all the absurdity and advise Mostow to go back to directing school, for even the special effects are laughable, the story predictable from scene A to Z, the actors stiff puppets and the depicted people gross clichés.
But in defense of this piece of tripe he told the world he is an authority on Nazis and subs. Which he is not. By any means. By maintaining his lie, he therefor turned the movie from a fantasy into one big, history-altering, American-patriotic, German-bashing walk over the graves of the brave men and women who lost their lives in the biggest tragedy of the last century.
I will never in my life see a Mostow-involved movie again.</HTML>
