Hi Cate,
Congrats on a masterly demolition job on this awful movie. As to the Laconia Incident movie. How about Milos Forman for the Director's job? As for someone to play Hartenstein, Umm, Would have to be German, and as I don't know any current german actors who could fit the bill, I would engage the services of the people who found Jurgen Prochnow for Das Boot. I think we would be in safe hands there. Another story that has intrigued me is that of Otto and Rudolf Ites. To my knowledge, the only twins to become uboat commanders. There must be a human story there. I'll do a bit of poking around and see what I can find. Probably nothing startling but an interesting little project nonetheless. Also there is the tale of the commander who was reported by his 1WO for anti Nazi behaviour and subsequently executed as a traitor. ( His name just slips my mind at the moment but I'm sure you know who I mean) He was ultimately exonerated but only after a long campaign to clear his name by members of his family.
There are many, many more filmable stories just waiting to be made. These are just a couple of possibilities. Any other ideas?
I love this stuff too
