i've been to berlin, but never to nuremburg...i hear it's a beautiful city with lots of history. i'd love to go there someday.
unfortunately for me, i'm not a beer drinker. i prefer whiskey, or white wines. a few years ago i was in the orkneys/shetlands, and i made a point of sampling every single malt scotch i could find. highland park or macallum's, 25 years old, are quite good.
i think some quarters in orkney are still smarting over scapa flow. there's a prominent memorial to the royal oak in st magnus' cathedral in kirkwall. there are these very impressive concrete barriers built at scapa flow in the water during the war by prisoners of war, mostly italian, with some germans. there's a very nice chapel there that was used by the italian prisoners. it started life as a quonset hut, reinforced with a concrete shell against the wind and cold. the entrance and the inside are all painted to resemble a typical mediterranean village church. one of the prisoners was a painter in his civilian life, and the camp commander gave him permission to decorate the chapel with surplus paint in his spare time. they even made pierced metal lamps out of old cans which serve as lighting inside. it's lovely, and it's nicely maintained by the scottish government.
i quite enjoyed berlin, and found the u-bahn and s-bahn very easy to navigate. people were friendly too. i was amused to discover the rules governing when a biergarten opens and closes...open whenever the proprietor is awake and alert, close when the beer runs out or the prorpietor decides it's time for bed, whichever comes first. or so i was told...
