Nine years ago I saw that Russian was being offered at the community college near my house, and decided to give it a whirl. I tried--I really, really did--for nine years, although because there weren't enough interested students to have a real full-size class, the two of us who were interested had to pay our teacher privately to teach us, once a week. She really threw herself into it, and I guess we learned quite a bit about Russian and Soviet culture (teacher was from Leningrad, and quite homesick), but of course one evening a week isn't enough to learn a language. Russian is WAY more dificult than German, French or Spanish! Hardly any of the words are similar to English, the sentence-order is bizarre, and of course the alphabet is mostly different from ours. After than endeavor, going back to German again feels like putting on a comfortable old pair of shoes after limping around on high heels--but then, I don't imagine you can relate to that feeling! eye rolling smiley

I'll be very interested to hear what you think of the book auf Deutsch.
