Michael, thanks for sending the relevant pages from UB 32's KTB It's that horrible old german handwriting, also Viebeg doesn't give to much details anyway, but here are the facts: 14.06.1917 to night-position off Cap Barfleur to use the last torpedo on board 15.06.1917 12.30h Den xxxconvoy auf dem Wege nach Le Havre in östlicher Richtung in Sicht. What does UB 32's KTB say for 15.06.1917 ? She attacked an convoy steering for Le Havre in Seine Bay reporting an hit on an steamer. Do you have the KTB Michael ? Would be interesting to know the time of attack (it was in the morning per Spindler) and the light conditions, also all other details of UB 32's observations. Next step would be to narrow down TOWHEE's movements,

Well, the position is given in the original files held at The National Archives, Kew, London. I can confirm that, as I have seen nearly all of the relevant mediterranean-related files there. On the other hand I can't remember if there's any cause given for her loss, it's not U-Boat related and so it's not of primary interest for me. But a mine is still possible, there

No, it was an torpedo miss by U 39 at 11:45h on 24.02.1917, 5 miles north-east of Cap Tenes. The database should be corrected accordingly! Oliver

158. Re: U90
aahmm, CORTON I think was torpedoed by UB 35, location was 8 miles South of Dunnose Hd., Isle of Wight (per Lloyds), UB 35 didn't return from that patrol. While U 90 reported an hit at 23.25h on 22.01.1918 (which will be 22.01.1918 also in British Time) in 098 gamma 6, that was 28 miles NE of Cap de la Hague I'm not certain which ship was attacked by U 90? Actions that days

William, there's NO surviving logbook of UB 59 held at the german archives, so no direct means to find out her crew for that period. Oliver

Ufo, you are right, I've overseen the location of "your" incident, that off course would have been an too wide detour from usual patrol lanes and ways to/from patrol areas. So far I have N O idea which u-boat/u-boats might be responsible for that, there are no germen minefields there and also I don't know if ever an german submarine penetrated this waters... Also t

Ufo, Yves, the date U 90 shot the sheep was 05.06.1918, it was on her way back to base while they anchored at the western shore of North Rona between 06.00h - 09.00h, accounting for 7 sheep. That's written down in the War Diary. For a scan of the relevant page Michael Lowrey might help you, I just have a note in my U 90-file on that. The W/T-station of St. Kilda was attacked on the

Hi William, the only possibility is: if any logbook of UB 59 survived at the german archives at Freiburg, I will have a look. Sometimes, but most times not, the writer gave an complete crew-list at the beginning of each logbook (depends on the writer). I'm not sure if for that late period of the war the logbooks from the Flanders Flotilla survived, maybe not ! My next visit to Fr

Hi Daniel, as the CITY OF LUCKNOW was torpedoed in the mediterranean and the crew rescued by british destroyer RIFLEMAN (and most probably was brought to Malta), the CALIFORNIA was just used to transfer the survivors. Maybe they there brought to Gibraltar first, than to the US or first to England an than to US or so. Oliver

Burt, the only Q-ship-action of U 21 was against HMS "Century" on 22.10.1916. 2 days after sinking "Majestic", U 21 on 29.05.1915 again tried to attack an battleship of Queen-class inside Kephalo Bay but was caugth in nets 2 miles North of Kap Kephalo. U 21 was able to free herself but she carried off 100 metres of the net. Oliver

Hi all, according to "World War One Channel Wrecks" by Neil Maw (based on TNA-files), Barton Hunter was picked up by S.S. CARRONMORE and was taken into Poole by an patrol drifter. B U T he states that Barton Hunter was one of 2 survivors from the crew of 36 !?!?!? So not really an improvement :-) Oliver

PORTO SANTO's date of loss was 29.03.1918, "foundered after springing leak" 4,5 miles South-West of Milo (various TNA-files). There was an minefield laid by UC 37 on 23.03. on that place, but it probably would be too much of "good will" to credit UC 37 with PORTO SANTO ! Oliver

Hi Jim, I know U 21's KTB, but I always tend to believe the side which should know it better, in this case the british side. To be sure you should have a look at TNA-file ADM 137 / 4021 merchant vessels attacked, mediterranean, 01. - 04.1916 I only made notes from all these files, so of course could have made an mistake, but as far as I know the CITY OF LUCKNOW just had her 61 c
