29 Aug 1942. 13.15 hrs: U-214 sighted a raft from the Etrib at approx. 38°33N/17°42W. Its only occupant was William Swinchin, a fireman, who had been adrift for 77 days. He was taken prisoner and eventually landed at Brest.
