Hi Oscar,
Type XXI had 2 6cyl. MAN Diesels of about 2000hp with superchargers at 470rpm, but intentionally throttled down to only
0.35 atm charge air , snorkel speed of 10-11 kn max. were acchieved at 395rpm=2x1060shp @ ttl consumption of 412kg/hr.
Type XXIII was single screw, one 6cyl. MWM Diesel of 580hp.
Theoretical max load 630hp @ 880rpm.
Both types had reduction gears. Do not know the ratios and make. Do not have cyl volumes. Can't find my notes on these details right now. Rgds, RB
