Vent risers were certainly a consideration, and so were the
torpedo breech door locking rings after the muzzle door was opened. The watertight doors in the forward and After Torpedo
rooms seat with sea pressure, that's why they are shut when opening the muzzle doors at depth. All topside hatches and flood valves seat with sea pressure.
Other consideratons are the two shaft seals and the two periscope
seals.
I believe that the 7/8" thick steel plating used on the BALAO-class
was 40% Titanium. I'll have to check that out.
